The upcoming Pixel Watch 4 is starting to take shape ahead of its official unveiling, expected to happen alongside the Pixel 10 lineup at Google’s next big event. While the new phones have already been the subject of numerous leaks, Google’s next-generation smartwatch has remained relatively low-key—until now.
Pixel Watch 4 Sizes, Codenames, and Connectivity Options
According to a new report by Android Authority, the Pixel Watch 4 will come in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm, just like last year’s Pixel Watch 3. The internal codenames this time are “meridian” for the 41mm version and “kenari” for the 45mm, replacing the mythology-themed names used in earlier models with Star Wars-inspired ones. Each size will be available in both LTE and Wi-Fi-only variants, giving users the flexibility to choose based on their connectivity needs.
No New Chipset This Year
In terms of performance, expectations may need to be dialled down. The Pixel Watch 4 will reportedly stick with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip—the same processor that powered both the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. While some may find the lack of an upgrade disappointing, it’s worth noting that the W5 Gen 1 is known for being both reliable and power-efficient. Google seems to have optimized the software around this chipset over the years, which should still offer a smooth experience.
The choice to reuse the same processor appears to be a result of timing. Qualcomm is still developing its next-gen “sw6100” wearable chip, but it won’t be ready before the Pixel Watch 4 launches. Meanwhile, shifting to Samsung’s Exynos platform seems unlikely, especially with rumours suggesting that Google may be working on its own custom smartwatch chip for future releases starting in 2025.
Battery Upgrades: Small but Meaningful
One area where there will be a noticeable improvement is battery life. The 41mm Pixel Watch 4 is expected to feature a 327mAh battery, which is around 7% larger than the 307mAh unit in the Pixel Watch 3. The 45mm model will reportedly see its capacity increase from 420mAh to 459mAh, giving it roughly a 9% boost. While details about charging speeds are still under wraps, faster charging support is also rumoured to be part of the package.
Launch Expected on August 20
The Pixel Watch 4 is likely to debut at Google’s upcoming hardware showcase, scheduled for August 20, where the tech giant is also expected to unveil the Pixel 10 series. Although we’re still waiting for official pricing and feature confirmations, this early leak paints a fairly clear picture of what to expect.
