Amazon India has confirmed that Apple’s newest smartphones will receive their first major price cuts during the Great Republic Day Sale, which kicks off on January 16. The retailer has listed discounted prices for the high-end iPhone 17 Pro series and the ultra-thin iPhone Air, offering a rare chance to buy the latest models below their launch MSRP.
The new pricing breakdown
According to the sale page, the top-of-the-line iPhone 17 Pro Max will be sold for ₹1,40,400, a significant drop from its original price of ₹1,49,900. The smaller iPhone 17 Pro gets a similar treatment, coming down to ₹1,25,400.
The most interesting deal is on the iPhone Air. Apple’s experimental slim phone will drop to ₹91,249, down from ₹99,000. It is worth noting that these prices likely include bank incentives; Amazon is offering a 10 percent instant discount for customers using SBI credit cards.
Performance vs. Portability
Buyers choosing between these discounted models should know the hardware differences. All three use the A19 Pro chip, but the iPhone Air uses a slightly slower version to keep the phone cool because of its incredibly thin design. It also features only one 48-megapixel camera on the back.
In contrast, the iPhone 17 Pro models run the chip at full speed and include a triple-camera system for better zooming and wide-angle shots. However, all three phones share the same high-quality 18MP front camera for selfies and video calls.
Market Impact & Context
Price drops on current-generation iPhones are unusual this early in the year. Typically, Apple prices stay firm until late in the lifecycle. By discounting the iPhone Air to near ₹91,000, Amazon is positioning it as a direct competitor to Android flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S25+. It suggests that retailers are eager to push the “Air” model, which offers a unique design but fewer features than the Pro.
What comes next
The Great Republic Day Sale begins on January 16. In addition to Apple devices, Amazon has teased discounts on competing phones from OnePlus and Samsung.
