Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has officially announced that the Comet browser is launching in India on September 22. The AI-powered browser is now available for Windows and macOS, while the Android version has been listed for pre-registration. However, users on iOS will have to wait longer, as the app is not yet available in the country. First introduced in July 2025, the browser is currently limited to Perplexity Pro subscribers.
Desktop Launch First
Sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter), Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas confirmed that the Comet browser can now be downloaded on macOS and Windows devices. For now, access is restricted to Perplexity Pro users, while those on the free plan won’t be able to try it just yet.
Android Pre-Registrations Open, iOS Missing
The Android app for the Comet browser has been listed on Google Play for pre-registration, though no specific release date has been mentioned. In contrast, the App Store does not show any listing for iOS, hinting at a possible delay before Apple users get access.
AI at the Core of Comet
The Comet browser is powered by the same AI technology behind Perplexity, bringing an integrated sidebar assistant that can help users manage multiple tabs and tasks. For instance, someone browsing several shopping sites at once can simply ask the assistant to find which store delivers the product the fastest.
Smarter Features on the Way
Beyond answering questions, the sidebar in the Comet browser can take actions too. It can schedule a meeting, turn a webpage into an email, send it, or even complete a purchase—all through text commands. According to Perplexity, more upgrades and new features are planned for future updates.
