The Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo has propounded to unveil the refreshed XC90 SUV on September 4. That implies that the new XC90 now incorporates a refreshed exterior design, which is in line with the EX90, plus it gets an array of tech upgrades.

Overview

The refreshed offering of the 2024 Volvo XC90 is deemed to receive a major design update, as it will borrow design cues from its electric sibling, the EX90. The official teaser dropped by Volvo shows a sculpted hood and new LED headlamps.

So far as the specifications go, the powertrain details are yet to be rolled out, however, we expect that the updated iteration will likely retain the same engine as the Lynk & Co. 09. The Lynk & Co.’s 09 vehicle is also based on Volvo’s SPA platform, plus it’s the company’s biggest car.

Related to the SPA platform, the Volvo EX90 is the company’s first model to be architectured on the EV-specific SPA2 platform. This vehicle has a three-row seating layout, plus its 111kWh battery pack has a WLTP range of 600km.

Speaking of powertrain, the updated XC90 will continue to be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with hybrid-based configurations.

The mild-hybrid engine option is tuned to produce 251bhp and 350Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid version, which also houses a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generates 547bhp and 845Nm of peak torque. This is a combined output. The electric-only range is rated at 161 kilometres.

Both versions draw their power figures via a standard 8-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of interior and features, the 2024 XC90 SUV may adopt a subtle design yet elegant, while having most controls relegated to a vertically-mounted infotainment screen of 14.5 inches. Further, it could also house a laser-based surround-view sensing system - LiDAR - coupled with eight cameras and radar.

And, rest of the features will be carried over from the outgoing version.

Launch Details

It is confirmed that Volvo will unveil the facelifted XC90 at its ‘90/90’ event, where it will also introduce the new all-electric EX90. It is worth mentioning that the launch will take place in the international market, which is scheduled for September 4, 2024.

Additionally, industry reports suggest that Volvo India will bring its updated flagship SUV to our country in 2025.
