The Renault Kwid’s sibling, the Dacia Spring was recently spotted testing on the Indian tarmac. But the spotted test mule was the electric iteration. For reference, the Dacia Spring was heavily updated in February 2024, as the company had to bring the design language in line, as seen on the Renault Duster.
It is worth mentioning that the Dacia Spring EV is sold under different nameplates overseas, but the India-bound version is deemed to be sold as the Renault Kwid EV. Industry reports speculate that the expected launch shall take place in 2025.
Overview
The spotted test mule of the electric Renault Kwid EV (or Dacia Spring EV) will have an enclosed front grille, large air intakes, redesigned bumpers (front and rear), and a split headlamp setup (DRLs and main lights). It is also expected to have a shark fin antenna, a charging port above the rear fender, an integrated rear spoiler, a rear windshield wiper, and aerodynamic alloy wheels, to name a few.
The spy images also showed the interior of this vehicle, which depicted several notable elements. Depicted offerings include a free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit, a multi-function three-spoke steering wheel, and a new centre console.
However, other deemed offerings comprise a digital instrument cluster, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, regenerative braking with paddle shifters, a leatherette upholstery, a wireless phone charger, an auto HVAV, auto headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers, among others.
On the safety front, it is expected to offer multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, traction control, hill-descent assist, hill assist, electronic parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring system, all-wheel disc brakes, etc.
Further Highlights
For those unaware, the Renault Kwid EV is already on sale overseas, sold as a Dacia Spring EV. Industry reports claim that the India-bound could have two battery pack options - a 26.8kWh with a 44bhp electric motor and a 26.8kWh unit with a powerful 64bhp motor.
Overseas, the Renault Kwid EV (or Dacia Spring EV) has a WLTP-claimed range of 220km on a single charge, plus the DC charger can replenish the battery from 10-80% in 45 minutes. This vehicle also has a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature.
Once launched in India, this electric offering from Renault is expected to take the likes of the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet, and Citroen eC3, among others.
