The Japanese carmaker Nissan has finally marked the global debut of the popular Nissan Patrol SUV. The new generation Patrol is internally called Y63 and it’s slated to go on sale overseas later this year.
It is also worth mentioning that the Patrol is also sold under the Nissan Armada nameplate in some markets, including North America. So, let’s delve into the offerings of the new generation Patrol SUV by Nissan.
Design
In the design department, the 2024 Nissan Patrol has a lot of design elements as the Infinix QX80. That said, this Japanese SUV has a more imposing appearance, thanks to its boxy design. It is less rounded than its predecessor, but it does have slightly rounded surfaces along with angular elements.
The front fascia of this vehicle houses a wide grille painted in piano black, flanked by ‘E’-shaped LED headlamps with LED DRLs. There is also a sleek chrome bar that bridges the headlamps. The front bumper’s lower section also has a horizontally-placed air dam, which also has integrated turn lamps.
The glasshouse is also very offered, which blends well with the full-size SUV’s appearance. The glass area aft of the rear doors sweeps upwards, which gives the vehicle a floating roof effect. Additionally, the higher variants of the Nissan Patrol have a contrast-finished roof shade, plus electrically adjustable side steps for front and rear passengers.
Coming to the rear, the tailgate is now more upright with rounded edges, alongside a slightly angular bend around the rear glass. For better handling and sporty appeal, this SUV has an integrated rear spoiler, accompanied by the roof-mounted brake light. The tail lamp has black inserts and a connecting LED strip.
The rear windshield also features a wraparound effect, plus the rear bumper has faux aluminium touches.
Interior and Features
Since it’s a new generation, the new Nissan Patrol has a totally different cabin layout, which is more plusher and contemporary than its predecessor. The cabin incorporates faux aluminium inserts, soft-touch panels and several upholstery options.
This three-row SUV has dual displays (touchscreen infotainment unit and digital instrument cluster), each measuring 14.3 inches. The conventional gear knob has been axed, which is now replaced by dedicated buttons mounted on the centre console beneath the HVAC panel.
Other offerings include a rotary dial for drive modes, rear seat entertainment tablets, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, anti-glare mirrors, a 12-speaker Klipsch surround sound system, and HDMI/USB ports.
There is also a wireless charger, a heads-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, powered seats, ventilated seats, a powered tailgate, ambient lighting, Nissan ProPILOT ADAS, and adaptive cruise control, to name a few.
Powertrains
This 7th-generation Nissan Patrol now houses a new engine. It boasts a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This setup all four wheels (AWD) by belting out 425bhp and 700Nm of peak torque.
Another engine option includes a 3.9-litre naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine that also works with the 9-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive system.
In addition to that, this Japanese SUV has a standard air suspension with adjustable ride height. There are also six drive modes - Eco, Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud/Rut, and Sport.
Availability
The new Nissan Patrol will go on sale later this year. But, as for the India launch, it’s unlikely that this vehicle will make its way to our shores. But, if it ever arrives, this SUV will directly rival the Land Cruiser 300.
