Global NCAP: Maruti Ertiga and Renault Triber Crash Results 2024

The Global NCAP recently tested two made-in-India cars - the Maruti Ertiga and Renault Triber. These two MUVs are Africa-spec vehicles, which didn't secure good scores.

The Global NCAP (also known as GNCAP) has tested two made-in-India sub-four-metre MUVs - the Maruti Ertiga and Renault Triber. These are Africa-bound models that are imported from our country. 

However, these two MUVs have been crash-tested under the Safer Cars for Africa initiative but didn’t achieve impressive scores. 

GNCAP Score: Africa-Spec Maruti Ertiga 

This made-in-India sub-four-metre MPV was awarded a 1-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. It scored 23.63 out of 34 maximum points, as far as the adult occupant protection is concerned. On the other hand, the child occupant protection received a 2-star safety rating, as it secured 19.40 out of 49 maximum points. 

Moreover, the bodyshell of the Maruti Ertiga was rated unstable and deemed capable of having a threshold of further loadings. 

But, in contrast, the Indian version of the Ertiga scored a 3-star safety rating, but it was tested under the old rules of the Global NCAP. 

GNCAP Score: Africa-Spec Renault Triber 

The African version of the Renault Triber is also a made-in-India vehicle. This sub-four-metre three-row MUV was also tested by the Global NCAP, and it was awarded a 2-star safety rating. 

The Triber secured 22.29 points out of 34 for adult occupant protection, whereas it scored 19.99 points out of 49 points for child occupant protection. In both categories, this MUV was awarded a 2-star safety rating. 

The Renault Triber also had its bodyshell rated as unstable and NOT deemed to withstand further loadings. 

Similar to the India-spec Ertiga, the made-in-India Renault Triber secured a 4-star safety rating at the Global NCAP crash test (2021). But as the 2021 year implies, the test was done under GNCAP’s old protocols. 

Other Highlights 

Like some countries, India also has its own crash test organisation, called the Bharat NCAP (or BNCAP). It is a country-specific division of the Global NCAP, which will conduct crash tests of cars that are sold in India, thereby helping Indian patrons to make an informed decision. 

It is worth mentioning that the BNCAP has tested four vehicles so far and those include the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Harrier, and Tata Safari. These four Tata cars were awarded a 5-star safety rating.
