Mahindra’s most anticipated SUV of recent times, the Thar 5-Door, is all set to break cover next month in August 2024. We have seen many of its disguised test mule images for a while now, but, the recently leaked images reveal significant details of the front and side profile of the SUV.
Leaked Design Elements and Expected Features of the Mahindra Thar 5-Door
The SUV will follow a similar design language as the current 3-Door Thar. Still, it will feature a redesigned front grille, brand-new LED projector headlamps with C-shaped DRLs, fender-mounted turn indicators, and bumper-mounted foglamps.
Like the current 3-Door Thar, this too continues to get the dual-tone front bumper, bold stance with its high bonnet and traditional hood latches to lock the hood.
The side profile of the SUV confirms the obvious presence of the extra doors and the unusual mounting of the door handles on the door frame near the C-pillar, similar to the Mahindra KUV100.
Other than this, the leaked image gives a little glimpse of the alloy wheel design of the SUV, which looks entirely different and very attractive, compared to the current Thar.
The interior of the SUV is also expected to be heavily revamped and loaded with modern amenities like a panoramic sunroof, and a new 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument cluster is also expected to be fully digital in this SUV and this, too, will be a 10.25-inch screen. The fully loaded top trims are expected to get the ADAS suite.
The Thar 5 Door is expected to come with three engine options: a 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.0-litre TGDi, and a 2.2-litre diesel. The SUV will offered in RWD and 4WD models, plus manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered, depending on the variant chosen.
The SUV is expected to be known as the Mahindra Thar Armada. It will take the likes of the Force Gurkha 5-Door, and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Its indirect rivals will include SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, etc.
