The Indian division of BYD recently teased the facelifted MPV, the e6. Several sources suggest that this electric MPV will mark its India debut around the Indian festive season, especially somewhere near Diwali.

Going back in 2022, the BYD e6 was the company’s first product for the Indian market, and initially, it was sold to fleet operators and later they decided to sell this vehicle to private buyers as well in September 2022.

As for the facelifted iteration, BYD unveiled and launched the 2024 e6 MUV at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) in July. The Indonesia-spec BYD e6 is sold as the M6, and several reports suggest that BYD India will rebadge the facelifted version from M6 to e6.

Updates Offered

As far as the exterior goes, the facelifted BYD e6 has received a new set of LED headlamps with reprofiled LED daytime running lights (DRLs), plus the headlights are bridged by a new satin-finished bar with embossed ‘BYD’ badging. Other reprofiled design elements can be seen on the front bumper with more pronounced air vents, complemented by chrome inserts.

In parallel, the rear end of this vehicle has received a new set of wraparound tail-lamps that are larger than the pre-facelift, alongside redesigned LED detailing. The rear bumper is also slightly tweaked and has chrome inserts, which complete the MPV’s overall look.

Overall, the silhouette continues to be the same as before, but we expect this vehicle to run on a new set of alloy wheels.

As for the interior updates, the BYD e6 (also called M6) now boasts a larger 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment unit, which is the most significant update. The centre console is also slightly tweaked, which houses two wireless charging trays, a new gear selector, and a new drive selector lever. Another new addition is the all-new multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel.

However, the overall cabin’s design language remains the same, plus it continues to offer an analogue-based instrument cluster.

Besides that, the international spec of this vehicle is available with 6- and 7-seating layouts, but we are unsure about the type of seating layout the India-spec will have. For reference, our market only gets the 5-seater BYD e6.

Other features onboard include an auto HVAC, automatic headlights, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, drive modes, a 360-degree camera, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, etc.

Specifications

In terms of specifications, the BYD e6 has two battery pack options in Indonesia - a 55.4kWh with a claimed range of 420km and a 71.8kWh with a claimed range of 530km. Both battery packs have the same torque of 310Nm, but the smaller battery pack produces 163bhp, while the larger unit produces 204bhp.

That’s an increase from the existing 95bhp and 180Nm of torque.

However, the India-bound BYD e6 is already offered with a top-spec battery pack, so we expect the specifications to remain unchanged.

Pricing

Currently, the BYD e6 in India carries a price tag of Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom), but we expect the facelifted iteration to command a slight premium over the outgoing version. In addition, the e6 MPV doesn’t have any direct competitor in India.
