BMW has introduced the most powerful M5 car, which will make its global debut later this year. In the latest generational upgrade of the luxury sedan, the brand has added a plug-in hybrid powertrain to extract more electrified output.

Performance, Features, Expected Pricing and Launch Date of the BMW M5

BMW has given this car a hybrid tech as seen on the BMW XM. It includes a 4.4 twin turbo V8 engine and an electric motor in its 8-speed transmission. The V8 mill churns out 585hp and the electric motor makes an additional 199hp, making the total power output of 727hp and 1001Nm. The power is supplied to all four wheels, thanks to the BMW’s xDrive system.

The car has become heavier than ever before at around 2400kgs, plus this saloon can run from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.5 seconds. The standard model has an electrically-limited top speed of 250kph which can be extended to 305kph by opting for the M driver’s package. The car also gets 67-69km of WLTP-claimed range from its 18.6kWh battery. The PHEV can go up to 140kph in the EV-only mode and supports up to 7.4kW AC charging.

Other noteworthy features of the luxury sedan include a wireless charging tray, a Bowers and Wilkins Surround Sound System, BMW curved displays, a flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with illuminated M buttons, M multifunction seats with electric adjustment, a head-up display, four-zone automatic climate control, M light alloy wheels (20-inch front & 21-inch rear) with high-performance tyres, and much more.

The car is currently available in the UK, having a starting price of £110,500 (Rs 1.17 crore). However, there is no clear indication of when this car will be available in India. We expect BMW India to launch this most powerful M5 by next year.
