The new generation BMW X5 incorporated with BMW’s Neue Klasse design was spotted testing in Europe. This German luxury SUV will be structured on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) which also underpins the new 5 Series (G80) and the i5.
Design Details We Know So Far
The heavily camouflaged next-gen BMW X5 with Neue Klasse design was spotted testing in Europe. This design language on the X5 was first introduced at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich in September 2023.
Selected new-age BMW cars have been showcased/teased with Neue Klasse designs. It should be safe to assume that the German automobile manufacturer will use that design for their upcoming models.
For those unaware, the new Neue Klasse designs are a hark back to the 1960s BMW models from the Neue Klasse lineup.
However, the Neue Klasse concept was followed by BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse X Concept in March 2024, which is said to be implemented on the next-generation BMW iX3 electric SUV.
As for the recently spotted test mule of the next-generation X5, the images indicate sleeker and sharper LED headlights with the retained iconic grille. There is no confirmation about the size and shape of the front grille.
But seeing the grille on Neue Klasse Concept vehicles, especially on the Neue Klasse X Concept, which is vertically positioned and is small and narrow, the next generation X5 might get the same.
In parallel, the rear lights seem to extend to the fenders and the upper section of the rear bumper, giving it a bold appeal. However, other exterior design elements include flush door handles, a split tailgate, and a roof-mounted spoiler.
Expected Specifications
One thing is confirmed, the successor of the current BMW X5 SUV will be underpinned by BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR) that also structures the current generation 5 Series (G60) and the all-electric i5.
Expected powertrains include combustion engines and hybrid-based versions. The image depicting the rear end of the test mule shows the presence of mufflers and exhaust tips, hence, the prototype is deemed to be a combustion-based unit.
Availability
The German automobile manufacturer hasn’t announced the launch date of the fifth-generation BMW X5, however, several reports speculate that it may mark its global debut in 2026. The India launch may happen after its global debut.
The current iteration is the fourth-generation X5, which has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 97 lakh, in India. It is the facelifted model, which rolled out in July 2023.
