The automotive division of Mahindra has finally launched one of the most anticipated vehicles, the 5-door Thar, which is called the Thar Roxx. The base-spec petrol version of the Thar Roxx is priced at Rs 12.99 lakh, while the base-spec diesel version carries Rs 13.99 lakh.

The detailed variant-wise price list will be announced soon. Please note that those are introductory ex-showroom figures, as of August 2024. It is also worth noting that the full variant-wise price list will be announced soon.

Comparatively, the Thar Roxx’s starting price is pricier than the standard Thar by Rs 1.64 lakh.

Highlights

Firstly, the 5-door Thar Roxx is essentially an extended version of the 3-door Thar. Both iterations are based on the same platform. In addition to that, the Thar Roxx is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine, which is tuned to produce 162bhp and 330Nm of peak torque.

Another option includes a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine which is capable of producing 152bhp and 330Nm of torque.

Both engines will have a standard six-speed manual transmission and optional automatic transmissions. But, more details on the specifications front are yet to be rolled out.

This homegrown lifestyle/off-roading vehicle will have a 4x4 (four-wheel-drive) system.

It continues to stand on the same suspension setup as the standard Thar but has been tweaked to carry the new weight and dimensions of the 2024 Roxx.

As for features, it has a semi-digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a Harman/Kardon surround sound system, power windows, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, connected car technology, etc.

There are also USB ports, a multi-function leather-wrapped steering wheel, a centre console, individual armrests, and a wireless charging tray, to name a few.

Besides that, it also houses all LED lighting on the front and rear ends, as far as the exterior is concerned. This iteration has received a new set of alloy wheels. Further, the Thar Roxx has received a subtle distinctive set of LED DRLs and headlamps.

The farthest pillar at the car’s rear end is also tweaked in a curved way so that it can provide headroom and accommodate the sunroof's functioning layout.

As far as safety goes, the Thar Roxx has all-wheel disc brakes, traction control, hill-descent control, hill assist, multiple airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, and ADAS, to name a few.

However, its alternative options comprise Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun, to name a few.
