Talk about Apple’s first foldable iPhone is picking up speed, and new leaks are giving us a clearer idea of what the device might look like. The phone, widely referred to as the iPhone Fold, is expected to launch sometime next year, although Apple has not confirmed the name or timeline yet.
A new leak from well known tipster Digital Chat Station shares fresh details about the phone’s design, biometrics, and display setup, hinting that Apple may take a slightly different approach than its current iPhones.
Face ID may be missing
One of the biggest changes could be how users unlock the phone. According to the leak, Apple may skip Face ID on its foldable iPhone. Instead, the device is said to use a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, similar to what we see on many book-style foldable phones today.
This also means Apple is unlikely to use an under-display fingerprint scanner. If true, this would be a noticeable shift from recent iPhone models, which rely almost entirely on Face ID for security.
Two displays with different designs
The leak also shares details about the screens. The main folding display inside the phone is said to measure 7.58 inches. To keep the screen clean and uninterrupted, Apple may use an under-display selfie camera on the inside.
On the outside, the cover display is expected to be 5.25 inches in size. Unlike the inner screen, this one will reportedly have a hole-punch cutout for the front camera, similar to most modern smartphones.
Camera setup and launch expectations
On the back, the iPhone Fold is rumored to feature a dual-camera setup, with at least one camera using a 48MP sensor. While full camera details are still unclear, Apple is expected to focus on image quality rather than chasing high megapixel numbers.
Industry watchers believe that once Apple enters the foldable market, it could change how people see foldable phones altogether. If the iPhone Fold launches in 2026, as many expect, it may help push foldable smartphones closer to mainstream acceptance.
For now, all of this remains based on leaks, but the details suggest Apple is carefully rethinking its usual design rules for its first foldable iPhone.
