YouTube Music has started rolling out its 2025 Recap, and this year the annual tradition is getting a major upgrade. Along with the usual stats and story style highlights, YouTube Music is introducing a new AI powered “Ask about your listening” experience. It lets users explore their year in music by asking personalised questions, turning the recap into something more interactive than before. The rollout began in late November, continuing the streaming platform’s trend of releasing its yearly summary ahead of December.
How to Access and What You Get
Users can find the Recap by tapping their profile picture in the top right corner of the YouTube Music app on Android or iOS. From there, the “Your Recap” option takes you straight into the story based summary. Just like previous years, the entire experience is presented as swipeable cards and you can jump to any section you want.
The 2025 Recap starts with the basics. It shows your total listening minutes, your longest streak, the song you played the most, and your top five tracks. Users also get the option to save a special autumn playlist that covers September to November 2025.
Visually, the Recap feels more polished. There is a calendar view that maps your listening habits for your top artist under the “Your musical bestie” badge. The “Musical Passport” card makes a return too, showing how many regions or countries your streamed artists came from. The summary also lists your top albums, podcasts, and genres before closing with a shareable graphic that wraps up your entire year.
New AI Chat and Interactive Prompts
The biggest addition this year is the AI chat feature powered by YouTube’s “Ask Music” technology. Instead of just scrolling through cards, users can now ask natural questions about their listening habits and get answers as colourful, shareable cards.
- YouTube Music also suggests fun prompts to get started, including:
- “How did my listening change over the year”
- “Was my music more chill or hype”
- “Describe my listening as a weather report”
- “What animal matches my music taste”
The AI looks at your YouTube Music history and breaks down patterns that the standard recap does not show. It can pull out genre specific insights, compare how much new music you discovered versus how often you replayed old favourites, and highlight trends that might have gone unnoticed. With the addition of this conversational element, the 2025 Recap feels more personalised and more playful, making it one of the biggest updates the recap has seen so far.
