After nearly a decade, YouTube is officially shutting down its Trending Page and Now Trending list starting July 21. First introduced back in 2015, the feature was meant to help users keep up with what’s hot on the platform—from viral music videos to the latest creator content. But over time, things changed.
Instead of helping people discover fresh content, the Trending Page gradually became more of a badge of honor for creators—something to show off high views and rising popularity. And honestly, fewer people were actually visiting it.
So, Why Is YouTube Removing the Trending Page Now?
In a recent blog post, YouTube explained that visits to the Trending Page have dropped significantly over the past five years. Why? Because the way people explore content on YouTube has evolved.
Nowadays, viewers are discovering trending content through other parts of the platform—like search suggestions, the homepage, YouTube Shorts, comments, and even the Communities section. With personalised recommendations getting better, users no longer feel the need to check a separate page for what’s trending.
From a Trend Tracker to a Creator Trophy
Originally, the Trending Page was meant to highlight popular content across the platform. But somewhere along the way, it started feeling more like a space for creators to flex their views and growth rather than a genuine trend-spotting tool.
With people now relying more on tailored suggestions on their YouTube Home Page, and with fewer users clicking on the Trending Page, YouTube felt it was time to retire it for good.
What Will Replace It?
Just because the Trending Page is going away doesn’t mean trend tracking on YouTube is disappearing. Instead, YouTube is putting more focus on YouTube Charts.
So, where will you find Trending Music Videos, Top Podcast Shows, or Movie Trailers now? You’ll find them in YouTube Charts, which already exists for YouTube Music, and will soon expand to more categories. If you’re into gaming, don’t worry—Trending Gaming Videos will still be available on the Gaming Explore page.
YouTube’s Focus? Personalised Content.
YouTube also made it clear: they’re doubling down on personalised recommendations. Whether it’s your Explore Page, your subscriptions feed, or simply the channels you follow, you’ll keep getting suggestions tailored to your interests.
And if you’re a creator, there’s good news for you too. You’ll still be able to find trending content ideas using the Inspiration tab in YouTube Studio—which gives you prompts based on your content style and audience.
In short, the Trending Page had a good run, but YouTube is evolving with its users. The focus now is on making discovery more personal, more relevant, and more in tune with how people actually use the platform today.
