Yamaha has officially launched the much-anticipated XSR155 in India, priced at an introductory ₹1,49,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle marks Yamaha’s entry into the growing neo-retro segment, blending timeless design with modern engineering — essentially giving riders the charm of the past with the technology of today.

Retro Looks, Modern Soul

The Yamaha XSR155 sits as the most compact member of Yamaha’s modern-retro family, inspired by the larger XSR models sold globally. It carries a clean and nostalgic design language — featuring a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and a minimalist LCD console.

The upright riding stance makes it perfect for daily commutes and casual weekend rides, giving riders both comfort and control. Yamaha’s intention here is clear: to offer a bike that turns heads but remains friendly for everyday use.

Engine and Performance

Underneath that retro bodywork lies the heart of a proven performer — the same 155cc liquid-cooled, four-valve single-cylinder engine that powers the popular MT-15. It comes with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), producing 18.1 bhp and 14.2 Nm of torque.

Mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist-and-slipper clutch, the XSR155 promises smooth city rides and spirited highway cruising. The engine’s linear power delivery and refined top-end make it one of the most versatile units in the segment.

Yamaha has also equipped the bike with dual-channel ABS and traction control — safety features rarely seen in this class.

Chassis and Ride Setup

The XSR155 is built around Yamaha’s tried-and-tested Deltabox frame, known for its balance of rigidity and agility. It rides on USD front forks and a linked-type monoshock at the rear, offering a plush yet responsive feel.

An aluminium swingarm helps keep the weight down while improving cornering stability. The 17-inch alloy wheels and a neutral riding triangle make it approachable for new riders while still engaging for enthusiasts.

Colours and Customisation

Yamaha is offering the XSR155 in four colours — Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue.

To make things even more interesting, buyers can choose between two official accessory packs:

  • Scrambler Pack: Adds a taller stance, rugged styling, and off-road-inspired elements.

  • Café Racer Pack: Gives the bike a sportier look with a revised seat and sleek cosmetic touches.

This makes the XSR155 one of the few motorcycles in its class that you can truly personalize out of the showroom.

Market Position and Rivals

The XSR155 is aimed at riders who love retro aesthetics but don’t want the heft of a big single-cylinder bike. It’ll naturally be compared to the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for its similar price and styling.

However, Yamaha’s offering has a few strong cards to play — it’s lighter, rev-happier, and comes with modern tech features like traction control and assist-and-slipper clutch. In short, it delivers classic looks with a thoroughly modern ride experience.

With the launch of the XSR155, Yamaha has brought a breath of fresh air to India’s 150–160cc motorcycle space. It’s stylish, tech-loaded, and surprisingly versatile — equally suited for city commutes, casual rides, or weekend escapes.
