WhatsApp is quietly testing a new feature that could make managing your shared photos, videos, and documents a lot easier. Called the Media Hub, this new addition brings all your shared content into one central place — so you no longer have to scroll endlessly through chats just to find that one photo or PDF.
The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of users on WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp for Mac.
A Smarter Way to Access Media
According to WABetaInfo, a popular WhatsApp feature tracker, the new Media Hub is now visible to some desktop users through the sidebar interface. The goal is simple — to give users a single, organized space to view everything they’ve received or sent across all chats.
That means you’ll be able to browse images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links shared recently, without needing to open individual conversations.
How the Media Hub Works
A screenshot shared by testers shows the Media Hub sitting neatly in WhatsApp’s sidebar, complete with a dedicated button for quick access. Once opened, users can browse through recently shared content and even use a search bar to find specific files.
The search function appears to be quite advanced — it reportedly supports filters such as the contact’s name, caption text, or even the date the file was sent.
You can also select multiple files at once, making it easier to delete, forward, or organize them. There’s also a sort-by-size option, which lets users quickly locate large files — perfect for those trying to free up space on their device.
Why It Matters
If you’ve ever tried hunting down an old document or video in WhatsApp, you know how messy it can get. With this centralized Media Hub, WhatsApp seems to be taking a big step toward decluttering the experience — especially for users who use WhatsApp for work or file sharing.
This feature was first spotted back in May 2025, and its current limited rollout suggests that WhatsApp is testing it carefully before releasing it to everyone.
Other WhatsApp Updates on the Way
WhatsApp has been steadily expanding its feature set across platforms. Recently, the company rolled out an Apple Watch app, available for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer. It allows users to send voice notes, receive call notifications, react to messages, and even view chat history directly from their wrist.
In addition, the messaging giant is reportedly working on a new “Strict Account Settings” mode designed to improve user security and help prevent cyberattacks. This feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.33.4).
The Takeaway
The new Media Hub could become one of the most useful additions to WhatsApp’s desktop experience in years — especially for power users and professionals. If the testing goes well, a wider rollout to all users across devices might not be far off.
