Sony has expanded its digital imaging lineup in India with the launch of the Sony ILCE-7V, a new full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at both professionals and serious content creators. Announced on Wednesday, the camera acts as a hybrid solution for photography and videography, packing several next-gen upgrades. At its heart is a newly developed 33-megapixel partially stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 processor and a dedicated AI processing unit drawn from the Alpha series. Together, these components promise faster autofocus, smarter subject recognition, and improved color accuracy. Sony has also introduced a new compatible lens — the FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II — optimized for high-speed continuous shooting.

Pricing and Availability

Sony has priced the ILCE-7V at Rs. 2,55,990 for the body-only version, with sales beginning December 10. For those looking for a ready-to-shoot package, the ILCE-7V M-kit — which includes the new FE 28-70mm lens — will cost Rs. 2,70,490 and is expected to be available in February 2026. Customers will be able to buy the camera through Sony Centres, the ShopAtSC website, and major retail partners including Amazon, Croma, and Reliance Digital.

Advanced Autofocus and Imaging Features

One of the standout upgrades in the ILCE-7V is its revamped autofocus system. The camera features Sony’s AI-powered Real-Time Recognition AF, which reportedly delivers a 30 percent improvement in tracking accuracy. It uses 759 phase-detection points that cover 94 percent of the frame, offering reliable focus even in low light down to EV -4.0.

The new Exmor RS sensor also improves readout speeds, enabling blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps with full AF and AE tracking. Sony has added a handy Pre-Capture mode as well, which buffers up to one second of action before the shutter is pressed — perfect for fast-paced wildlife or sports moments. Photographers can also expect up to 16 stops of dynamic range, ensuring smoother color transitions and better highlight detail.

Video Capabilities and Lens Support

For video creators, the ILCE-7V offers 7K oversampled 4K 60p recording in full-frame mode and 4K 120p in APS-C/Super 35 mode, both without pixel binning for maximum clarity. Enhanced features like AI-driven Auto Framing and Dynamic Active Mode stabilization help capture smoother, more professional-looking footage.

Sony’s new FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II lens complements the camera with support for 120fps AF tracking and breathing compensation when paired with compatible bodies. The ILCE-7V also benefits from improved thermal management, allowing longer recording sessions, and improved battery efficiency that delivers up to 630 shots using the viewfinder.
