After months of rumors and leaks, Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone — likely to be called the Galaxy Z TriFold — is reportedly gearing up for a debut at the end of October. The unveiling is expected to happen around the APEC summit in Gyeongju (October 31 – November 1). What’s still unclear is whether Samsung will use the event for a full-scale launch or simply as a technology showcase.
Global Launch or Regional Exclusive?
The big question now is whether Samsung will release the tri-fold globally or limit it to select regions like South Korea and China. The decision may depend on how well its existing foldables are performing. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has reportedly sold 50% more units than its predecessor, a strong signal that consumer interest in foldables is rising. If that momentum continues, Samsung may be more confident in rolling out the tri-fold to a wider audience.
Rumored Specs and Design
Early reports suggest the device will feature a 9.96-inch main display that folds down into a more compact form with a 6.49-inch cover screen. The frame is said to be made from a mix of titanium and aluminum for strength and durability. Inside, the phone could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with 16GB of RAM.
Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which uses an under-display camera, the tri-fold might stick to a punch-hole camera on the main screen. Some components — like the hinge design and speakers — are also expected to be shared with the Fold 7.
Battery and What to Expect
Powering such a unique form factor is no small task, so Samsung is rumored to be using a new type of folding battery to maximize capacity. Exact charging speeds are still under wraps.
As one of the most highly anticipated devices of the year, the tri-fold is generating plenty of excitement. With just weeks to go, we should soon know more about its final specs, launch strategy, and pricing.
