Samsung is finally gearing up to launch its most ambitious foldable yet — its inaugural tri-fold smartphone, and if the latest reports are accurate, we might see it hit the shelves by the end of 2025. While it was previously rumored to carry the name Samsung Galaxy G Fold, a new leak hints that the device could be called the Galaxy Z TriFold, making it part of the company’s familiar Galaxy Z family instead of a brand-new Galaxy G series.

New Name, Familiar Lineup

Tipster Max Jambor (@MaxJmb) shared that Samsung may officially brand the device as “Galaxy Z TriFold”, which signals the brand’s intention to keep the naming consistent with its other foldables like the Z Fold and Z Flip. This approach makes sense, especially as the device will still be targeting premium foldable users.

Launch Timing and Market Rivalry

Another leak, this time from Ice Universe on Weibo, suggests that Samsung’s triple-screen smartphone could launch in October. That’s just a month after the rumored September launch of Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design successor, which means Samsung’s tri-fold phone will enter a space that’s just starting to heat up.

What We Know About the Tri-Fold So Far

Samsung Mobile President TM Roh has already confirmed the company’s intention to release its tri-fold smartphone before the year ends. Internally, the device is said to go by the codename Q7M, and it’s reportedly headed into mass production soon. The model number tied to the phone is SM-F968, and Samsung might go for a limited release initially, possibly to gauge market response.

When fully opened, the device is expected to offer a large 9.96-inch display, while the folded configuration may reduce it to a more manageable 6.54-inch display. Under the hood, it’s rumored to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which would bring flagship-level performance. Powering it all could be a silicon-carbon battery, which might improve both battery life and charging speeds. Additional features may include a triple camera unit, a sleek flat body, and support for 8K video recording at 30fps.

Inspired by the Foldable Trend

Design-wise, Samsung appears to be going for a G-style design with inward-folding hinges, similar to what we recently saw in the Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept tri-fold phone. With this design, Samsung seems to be targeting the same audience as Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design, which for now is the only tri-folding phone on the market for sale.

Teased Earlier at Galaxy Unpacked

Samsung had already offered a sneak peek of this multi-folding phone during the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event in January. Initially, it was expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, but that didn’t happen. Now, all eyes are on the rumored second Galaxy Unpacked event, where the company might finally reveal the tri-fold in full.
