Samsung has only just rolled out One UI 8 for its latest flagship models, but attention has already shifted to the company’s next update — One UI 8.5. The new version is currently in development and is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series early next year, bringing a refreshed interface to both Galaxy phones and Galaxy tablets.

Early Glimpse Through Leaks

Leaked screenshots, shared by Sammyguru, show a Galaxy S21 Plus running a modified build of One UI 8.5. The build is said to originate from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, giving an early look at the kind of design changes Samsung is working on.

What’s Changing in the UI

The Settings page appears more compact, with subtitles removed from menu items. The search bar has been shifted to the bottom, a design decision that mirrors iOS 26. Other tweaks include an overflow gradient at the top and bottom, plus drop shadows on containers and the search bar.

The expanded search screen now displays categories in a three-column grid, while a floating back button — another iOS 26-inspired addition — makes its appearance.

Broader Rollout Expected

Reports suggest that this new design direction will extend across Samsung’s first-party apps. And given how often Android OEMs borrow design cues from Apple, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Samsung lean more heavily on iOS 26-style elements with the rollout of One UI 8.5.
