OnePlus has officially started rolling out OxygenOS 16 to the OnePlus 12R, making it one of the first devices to jump to the Android 16-based software. The company confirmed that 12R users in India are getting the update first, with more regions set to follow soon. Other OnePlus phones will begin receiving the update from December through early 2026, depending on the model.
A Fresh Look With Liquid Glass Design
In its community forum announcement, OnePlus highlighted a major visual refresh called Liquid Glass design. The new interface aims to bring a cleaner, more unified look across menus and system apps. Users will notice updated icons, smoother transitions, and more polished animations throughout the UI. Even the haptic feedback has been fine-tuned, making the phone feel more responsive and “alive” while navigating.
Productivity Boost With AI Features
OxygenOS 16 is also bringing several new tools under OnePlus’s “Plus Mind” AI suite. Power users, especially those who multitask a lot, will benefit from upgrades to the Smart Sidebar, which now offers quicker access to floating windows and split-screen modes. App resizing and switching between messaging, video, and media apps also feel faster and more fluid with this update.
Performance Tweaks and Better Privacy
Behind the scenes, OnePlus has added deeper system optimizations to improve memory management and keep performance stable during heavy usage. Android 16’s updated privacy options are also now available, giving users more granular control over app permissions.
While the update doesn’t introduce any major new camera modes for the OnePlus 12R, OnePlus has refined the image-processing pipeline and made the camera interface smoother, ensuring more consistency when shooting photos or videos.
