The head of iQOO’s India division has confirmed that Origin OS 6, the company’s user interface based on Android 16, will be introduced in the Indian market. The new software skin is set to replace the currently used Funtouch OS 15. This move aligns the software experience on Indian models with that of the Chinese variants from both iQOO and its parent company Vivo, which already run on Origin OS.
Official Confirmation and Market Alignment
The announcement was made by iQOO India CEO, Nipun Marya, in a post on the social media platform X. This strategic shift is aimed at creating brand uniformity across international markets, as the companies have historically used Funtouch OS in India while utilizing Origin OS in China. The confirmation follows recent speculation and a change in the official Funtouch OS social media handle to reflect the Origin OS name.
Rollout Details and First Devices
While a specific rollout schedule for India has not yet been provided, it is anticipated that premium smartphones will receive the update first, followed by mid-range and budget models. The official unveiling of Origin OS 6 is scheduled for October 10 in China. It is expected that the upcoming flagship devices, the Vivo X300 and Vivo X300 Pro, will be the first smartphones to ship with the new Android 16-based operating system pre-installed.
Uncertainty for Existing Handsets
It currently remains unconfirmed whether existing iQOO and Vivo smartphones that were launched with Funtouch OS 15 in India will be eligible for an update to the new Origin OS 6 interface. The company has not yet clarified its update policy for older models in the region regarding this software transition.
