Oppo has officially confirmed that it is bringing the Oppo Pad 5 to India. After months of speculation, the company has finally dropped a solid hint about the Oppo Pad 5’s arrival, with a dedicated microsite going live on Flipkart. While an exact date hasn’t been plastered on billboards just yet, all signs point to the tablet debuting alongside the Reno 15 series later this month.
A Heavy Hitter in Hardware
If the Indian variant sticks to the blueprint of the model launched in China back in October, we are looking at a serious performance machine. The headline feature here is the display—a massive 12.1-inch panel that clearly positions this device as a productivity slate rather than just a media consumption toy.
Under the metal chassis, things get even more interesting. The Chinese version runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+, a chipset that handles multitasking and heavy gaming without breaking a sweat. For Indian users, this means the Pad 5 could be one of the few Android tablets capable of giving the iPad Air a run for its money in terms of raw speed.
Battery Life and Design
Portability doesn’t mean much if your device dies by noon. Oppo seems to have addressed this with a substantial 10,050mAh battery unit. It’s a large cell, but necessary for driving a high-refresh-rate 12-inch screen. When you do eventually run dry, the device supports 67W fast charging—a feature that’s becoming standard on phones but is still a welcome addition in the tablet space where charging usually takes forever.
In terms of looks, the promotional images suggest a clean, minimal aesthetic available in at least two colour options. It fits right in with the “flat-edge” design trend currently dominating the market.
Why This Launch Matters
The timing here is crucial. For a long time, the premium Android tablet space in India was a one-horse race dominated by Samsung. But recently, entrants like OnePlus and Xiaomi have aggressively targeted the sub-₹40,000 segment.
By bringing the Pad 5 here, Oppo isn’t just filling a gap in its portfolio; it’s trying to lock users into its ecosystem. If they can price this aggressively—undercutting the iPad 10th Gen or matching the OnePlus Pad 2—it could easily become the default choice for anyone looking for a big-screen Android experience this year.
We expect official pricing and final storage configurations to be revealed at the upcoming keynote.
