OnePlus seems to be working on a new midrange smartphone for the Chinese market, and early leaks suggest it could come with an impressive 165Hz refresh rate display — a first for the brand. The device is said to feature a flat screen with 1.5K resolution, giving users a sharp and fluid viewing experience.
While OnePlus hasn’t confirmed any details yet, rumours hint that it might be part of the upcoming OnePlus Ace 6 series or possibly the OnePlus Ace Racing Edition lineup. For context, the company launched the OnePlus Ace 5 Pro and OnePlus Ace 5 in December 2024 in China.
Testing New Display Tech on Midrange Models
Well-known tipster Digital Chat Station posted on Weibo that OnePlus is testing this 165Hz display along with an upgraded integrated circuit (IC) chip to improve touch responsiveness. Interestingly, this feature isn’t expected to debut on a flagship model just yet.
Instead, OnePlus appears to be trying out the new display tech in its mid-range smartphones first. This approach will let the company gauge real-world performance and collect user feedback before considering it for flagship devices.
Could Be the OnePlus Ace 6 Series
If the leaks are accurate, this phone could be part of the OnePlus Ace 6 series, which is rumoured to include a 1.5K resolution, 165Hz refresh rate display, Snapdragon 8 series chipsets, and a massive 7,000mAh battery. The lineup might also feature an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
Reports suggest the OnePlus Ace 6 could launch in October in China, and might arrive in global markets as the OnePlus 15R.
How It Compares to the Ace 5 Series
The OnePlus Ace 5 Pro and OnePlus Ace 5, launched in December 2024, came with 6.78-inch full-HD+ displays and up to a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Both offered up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. The Pro model runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Edition SoC, while the Ace 5 uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Camera-wise, both sport a triple rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor.
