OnePlus has officially confirmed that its upcoming OnePlus 15R will be the first smartphone in the world to ship with Qualcomm’s brand-new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. The announcement was made on Wednesday through a press release, positioning the 15R as a major step up from last year’s OnePlus 13R, which ran on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The phone is set to make its India debut in the second week of December.
A Big Leap in Speed and Intelligence
Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 brings noticeable upgrades across performance, graphics, and AI. The chipset features the company’s custom Oryon CPU, an upgraded Adreno GPU, and a faster Hexagon NPU, reaching clock speeds of up to 3.8GHz.
Qualcomm claims the new chip delivers:
-
36 percent faster CPU performance
-
11 percent improved GPU output
-
46 percent better AI performance
On the connectivity front, the integrated Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF supports peak uplink speeds of up to 3.5 Gbps, while Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 come via the FastConnect 7900 system.
Launch Date and Durability Features
The OnePlus 15R is officially set to launch in India on December 17, alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 tablet. Both devices will be available through Amazon and the official OnePlus online store.
OnePlus has revealed two color options for the 15R: Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze. One standout highlight is the phone’s durability — it carries an impressive stack of ratings including IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K, offering extensive protection against dust and water.
Rumored Specs and Expected Hardware
While the chipset and durability are confirmed, the rest of the specifications are still based on leaks and early reports. The OnePlus 15R is expected to feature:
-
6.7-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution
-
50MP primary camera + 8MP ultrawide camera
-
Battery of 8,000mAh or higher, with 100W fast charging
-
Up to 16GB LPDDR5x Ultra RAM
-

With a global chipset first and strong rumored specs, the OnePlus 15R is shaping up to be one of December’s most anticipated smartphone launches.
