Ola Electric has taken its next big step beyond electric scooters. On Thursday, the company announced its entry into India’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) market, which is already worth around ₹1 trillion. To mark this debut, Ola has launched its first residential energy solution called Ola Shakti.
From Scooters to Homes
This move is seen as a natural extension of Ola’s journey so far. After building its expertise in batteries and cells for electric mobility, the company is now bringing the same technology to Indian homes. Ola plans to use its 4680 cell technology, its Gigafactory, and its existing nationwide network to scale the product quickly, without making huge new investments.
Why This Matters
India’s energy storage market is expected to grow rapidly, possibly crossing ₹3 trillion by 2030. Ola believes that its own demand for residential energy storage could reach 5 GWh annually in the near future.
Ola’s Chairman and MD, Bhavish Aggarwal, said that India doesn’t have an energy shortage, but an “energy storage opportunity.” With Ola Shakti, he hopes to turn that opportunity into real energy independence for Indian households.
What is Ola Shakti?
Ola Shakti is being promoted as India’s first fully homegrown residential energy storage system – designed, engineered, and manufactured locally. It uses the advanced 4680 Bharat Cell and automotive-grade battery packs for performance and safety.
