Even though the iPhone 17 has only been out for a few months, rumors about the 2026 iPhone 18 lineup are already spreading. A new leak suggests that Apple is planning some major design changes, specifically for its more expensive “Pro” models, which might finally get rid of the pill-shaped cutout we see today.
Hiding the Face ID Sensors
The biggest news is about the screen design. According to recent reports, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max might move the Face ID sensors under the display glass.
If this happens, the “Dynamic Island” (the black pill shape at the top of the screen) would disappear on the Pro models. Instead, users would likely see just a small circle—a simple punch-hole—for the selfie camera. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 and the rumored “iPhone Air 2” are expected to keep the current Dynamic Island look.
Smoother Screens for Everyone
For years, only the Pro iPhones got the super-smooth 120Hz screens (which Apple calls ProMotion). The leaks suggest this is finally changing.
Reports claim that all four iPhone 18 models will get these faster screens. This means even the cheaper models will feel much smoother when scrolling through apps or playing games. The screen sizes are also expected to be:
-
iPhone 18 & 18 Pro: 6.27 inches
-
iPhone Air 2: 6.55 inches
-
iPhone 18 Pro Max: a massive 6.86 inches
A Confusing Release Schedule?
Usually, Apple releases all its new phones in September. However, this leak claims something different might happen in 2026.
The report suggests the high-end iPhone 18 Pro and a possible “iPhone Fold” could launch in September as usual, but the standard iPhone 18 might not arrive until the Spring of 2027. This would be a huge break from tradition, so it’s worth treating this part of the rumor with a grain of salt until we hear more.
