Motorola seems to be gearing up for a major shift in its smartphone strategy. A new invite for CES 2026 hints that the company is working on a book-style foldable phone, something very different from its usual clamshell designs. If this device launches, it could go head-to-head with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Until now, Motorola has focused only on vertical flip phones, including the Razr 60 series and the Razr 50 lineup introduced in 2024. But this latest teaser suggests a bigger foldable is finally on the way.
Invitation Details and What It Means
The buzz started after media outlets and tech journalists, including Android Headlines editor Alex Maxham, received a special press package. Inside was an invite to Lenovo Tech World along with a wooden flip book. The box carried the line, “Every fold reveals a possibility.”
The invitation also said, “We’re getting ready to unfold a new perspective at Lenovo Tech World, set to take place on January 6.” For many industry watchers, this message strongly hints that Motorola is preparing to showcase a book-style foldable smartphone at the event.
Why It Matters
Motorola has stayed in the flip-phone space while companies like Samsung and Huawei continue to push foldable innovation forward, including experimenting with triple-screen designs. If Motorola launches a book-style foldable, it would directly compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold lineup as well as Google’s Pixel Fold.
Where the Current Lineup Stands
While working on this new device, Motorola is still pushing its current models. The Razr 60 series launched earlier this year, and in India, the Razr 60 Ultra is priced at Rs 99,999 for the 16GB plus 512GB version. The regular Razr 60 costs Rs 49,999.
The standard Razr 60 runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7400X chip, while the Ultra model uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. Battery capacity also differs: the Razr 60 includes a 4,500mAh battery with 30W charging, whereas the Ultra gets a 4,700mAh battery with much faster 68W charging.
Alongside this foldable news, there have also been leaks about other upcoming Motorola products, such as the slim Motorola Edge 70, the Moto G Stylus 2026, and a new Moto Tag 2.
