Motorola is finally stepping out of its comfort zone. After years of dominating the flip-phone market with its Razr series, the Lenovo-owned brand has officially teased its first book-style foldable smartphone. Tentatively called the “Razr Fold,” the device appeared in a promotional video at CES 2026 on Monday, with a full reveal scheduled for later this week.
Design and Stylus Support
The official teaser shows a device that feels distinctly Motorola, featuring curved edges and a familiar camera bump. The video highlights a prominent hinge and a large inner screen with a centered hole-punch camera for selfies.
However, leaks from veteran industry insider Evan Blass paint a slightly different picture. His renders suggest the phone will support a stylus—rumored to be called the “Moto Pen Ultra”—which would make it a direct productivity rival to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Interestingly, Blass’s images show the selfie camera tucked into a corner rather than centered, a discrepancy that will likely be cleared up at the official launch.
Aggressive Pricing Strategy
The biggest news might not be the hardware, but the price. Reports indicate that Motorola plans to launch the Razr Fold at $1,500 (roughly ₹1,35,300) in the US.
If true, this is a massive shot across the bow for its competitors. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at around $2,000, and Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold costs about $1,499. By matching Google and undercutting Samsung by a significant margin, Motorola seems determined to compete on value right out of the gate.
Market Impact & Context
Motorola is late to the book-style party, but that might not matter if the price is right. The company has already proven it can make great foldables with the Razr flip phones. Now, it is trying to bring that same “premium for less” strategy to the larger foldable market.
The key challenge will be software. Samsung has spent years refining its multitasking features to make large screens useful. Motorola will need to prove that its software—and its new stylus—can offer a similar experience without the premium price tag.
What Comes Next
We won’t have to wait long for the full details. Motorola is expected to officially unveil the Razr Fold—along with confirmed specs and release dates—at its launch event on January 7.
