Microsoft is set to raise the prices of its gaming consoles in the US, just months after a global hike earlier this year. From October 3, both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X will cost more, with the company pointing to “changes in the macroeconomic environment” as the main reason.

New Prices for Xbox Series S and Series X

The entry-level Xbox Series S with 512GB storage will go up from $379.99 to $399.99. The 1TB model is also seeing an increase, moving from $429.99 to $449.99.

The flagship Xbox Series X is facing an even bigger jump. The digital-only version will now retail at $599.99 instead of $549.99, while the disc version climbs to $649.99.

One of the biggest increases is for the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition of the Xbox Series X, which is rising by $70 to $799.99. That’s now pricier than the PS5 Pro, currently listed at $749.99 in the US.

The Outer Worlds 2 Price Update

It’s not just the consoles making headlines. The Outer Worlds 2, set to launch later this year, will be priced at $70. Earlier, Microsoft had hinted that some of its upcoming first-party games could cross into the $80 range. However, the company later rolled back that decision, keeping the sequel in line with the industry standard for triple-A titles.

What Won’t Change

The revised prices will only apply to the US. In other countries, console prices remain unchanged. Accessories such as Xbox controllers and headsets are also unaffected by this move.

Second Hike This Year

This is the second time in 2025 that Microsoft has raised prices. Back in May, the company increased the cost of both the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, with jumps of $80 and $100 respectively. Some accessories also became more expensive at that time.

Despite the adjustments, the company has confirmed that upcoming holiday releases—including The Outer Worlds 2—will stay at $69.99, avoiding the rumored $80 pricing for now.

Microsoft’s Take

In its official note, Microsoft acknowledged that higher prices are never easy for players but said the decision was made carefully. The company stressed it is still focused on giving fans more ways to play, more screens to enjoy, and continuing to bring value to the Xbox ecosystem.
