After gaining a solid foothold in the mainstream automotive market, MG Motor is now gearing up to enter the luxury car segment in India. The company will retail its premium lineup through a dedicated high-end retail channel known as ‘MG Select’. Pre-bookings are already open for the upcoming MG M9 and Cyberster, two electric vehicles aimed at luxury buyers. The MG M9, an electric MPV, and the Cyberster, a two-door electric roadster, mark MG’s bold step into the upscale EV space.

MG M9 Launch Date and Expected Price

The much-awaited MG M9 is set to make its India debut on 21st July. Meanwhile, the Cyberster is also expected to launch within the same month. The MG M9 will become India’s first all-electric luxury MPV, with a starting price anticipated around Rs 70 lakh. For comparison, the Kia Carnival starts at Rs 63.91 lakh, while the Toyota Vellfire is priced between Rs 1.22 crore and Rs 1.32 crore.

Local Assembly to Lower Costs

To support its ‘Make in India’ initiative, MG Motor plans to import the MG M9 as CKD (completely knocked down) or SKD (semi-knocked down) units and assemble them at its facility in Halol, Gujarat. This approach helps reduce import duties significantly. On the other hand, the Toyota Vellfire enters India as a CBU (completely built unit), which attracts higher costs.

MG M9 Dimensions and Exterior Highlights

The MG M9 commands strong road presence with its generous dimensions — 5,200 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height, and a 3,200 mm wheelbase. This makes it larger than both the Carnival and Vellfire. On the exterior, it features split LED headlights, a bold trapezoidal front grille, and a stylish waterfall-inspired rear LED tail light setup.

Unique Features and Luxurious Interiors

One of the standout features is the 19-inch self-healing tyres equipped with ContiSeal technology, which automatically seals punctures for hassle-free travel. Inside, the MG M9 is all about opulence. The second-row captain seats, branded as ‘Presidential Seats’, offer first-in-segment 16-way adjustability, along with heating, ventilation, and 8 massage modes.

Other key comfort features include a reclining function, lumbar support, adjustable headrests, and a powered ottoman, all controllable via a smart armrest touchscreen.

Technology, Entertainment and Space

The cabin is loaded with luxury features such as a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a premium 13-speaker JBL sound system, and multi-zone climate control. Tech highlights include a 12.30-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a first-in-segment digital IRVM, and a PM 2.5 air filter.

Storage-wise, the MG M9 is extremely practical, offering up to 1,720 litres of boot space with the third row folded, and an additional 55-litre frunk for extra utility.

MG M9 Battery, Performance, and Safety

Under the hood, the MG M9 is powered by a high-performance electric motor delivering 245 PS and 350 Nm of torque. It houses a 90-kWh NMC battery with an aluminium casing for added durability. The company claims a driving range of 548 km on a full charge. With an AC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 0-100% in around 9.5 hours, while a 160 kW DC fast charger reduces charging time to just 90 minutes.

On safety, the MG M9 scores high. It has earned 5-star ratings from both Euro NCAP and ANCAP. Built using high strength and ultra-high strength steel, the MPV includes 9 airbags and a full suite of ADAS features, ensuring all-around passenger protection.
