At the recent House of Instagram event in Mumbai, Meta announced major updates aimed at helping Indian creators reach larger audiences. The company revealed new language support features across Instagram, Facebook, and its standalone Edits app. These updates focus on breaking language barriers through improved Meta AI translation tools.
AI-Powered Dubbing and Local Language Support
One of the biggest additions is the ability to translate Reels into five more Indian languages:
Bengali, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Using Instagram’s advanced AI dubbing and lip-sync technology, creators will be able to convert their original audio into natural-sounding translations. According to Meta, the tool keeps the creator’s tone and pitch, so the translated voice still feels like their own.
The AI also adjusts lip movements to match the translated audio, making it appear as though the creator is speaking that language in real time.
These new languages build on existing support for English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.
New Regional Typography for Mobile Editing
Meta is also expanding the creative features inside the Edits app, its mobile-first video editing tool. The app already includes features like keyframing and automatic captions, and now it will support regional typography.
The update adds new fonts for Devanagari and Bengali–Assamese scripts. This means creators can style text in languages like:
• Assamese
• Bengali
• Hindi
• Marathi
These fonts will automatically appear on Android devices if the phone is set to one of these languages. Users can also manually select the fonts through the app’s text settings.
