Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch a brand-new midsize SUV in India on September 3, 2025. The company has released its first teaser, giving us a quick glimpse of what’s coming. Positioned between the Grand Vitara and the Brezza, this new SUV will be sold through Arena dealerships, making it slightly more accessible than its bigger sibling.
First Look and Design Details
The SUV is expected to be called the Escudo, and we’ve already seen spy shots of it on the road. The teaser shows off Boomerang-styled 3D LED tail lamps along with sharp turn indicators, giving the rear a sleek and modern appeal. The large tailgate adds a bold touch, just like we noticed on the test cars earlier.
Other design cues include a slim horizontal light bar, a shark fin antenna, a roof spoiler, and a high-mounted stop lamp – all of which add a sporty vibe to the SUV.
Engine and Variants
Under the hood, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will share engines with the Grand Vitara. Buyers will get two petrol options: a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid. There’s also talk that a CNG version might be in the pipeline, giving customers even more choice when it comes to efficiency.
Size, Price and Segment
The Escudo is expected to be slightly longer than the Grand Vitara, offering a roomier cabin and a larger boot. Prices are likely to fall between Rs. 10-16 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes it a strong value option in the midsize SUV category.
Competition, however, is tough. The new SUV will take on some big names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Mahindra Scorpio N, Toyota Hyryder, and Honda Elevate.
Cabin and Features
Inside, the Escudo won’t feel basic at all. A large nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will take centre stage. On the safety front, six airbags are expected to come as standard.
Tech and comfort features like a wireless phone charger, semi-digital instrument cluster, flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, and selectable drive modes are also likely. With this package, the Maruti Suzuki Escudo could attract not only midsize SUV buyers but also those who are eyeing top-end compact SUVs.
