The Mahindra Vision.T SUV concept has finally been revealed at the Freedom NU event, organised by Mahindra as part of the Independence Day celebrations. This concept builds upon the Mahindra Thar E, which made its global debut in South Africa back in 2023. Like the Thar E, the Vision.T follows a 5-door design, but it’s a step closer to production and sits on the brand-new Nu IQ platform.
A Bold Yet Familiar Design
At first glance, the Mahindra Vision.T keeps the rugged, boxy SUV shape that off-road fans love. But look closer and you’ll see several details that give it a more production-ready feel compared to the Thar E.
It comes with a flat bonnet and a six-slat split grille, similar to what we’ve seen on the Thar Roxx, giving it a tough, upright look. The squared headlamps with vertical LED DRLs stand out, while the chunky black bumper houses an exposed yellow tow hook that adds a functional yet stylish touch.
From the side, its upright stance, chunky wheel arches, and massive off-road tyres make it look adventure-ready. The blacked-out rear quarter glass design is again similar to the Thar Roxx, and the rear door handles are neatly tucked into the C-pillar. At the back, you’ll find squared tail lamps with LED strips and the signature tailgate-mounted spare wheel — a design cue fans of the Thar will instantly recognise.
Inside the Vision.T
The interior of the Mahindra Vision.T concept combines ruggedness with a modern, tech-heavy layout. It gets an upright dashboard with a dual-tone theme, a vertical touchscreen that also shows climate controls, and a set of toggle switches for key functions.
In front of the driver sits a fully digital instrument cluster, while the 3-spoke steering wheel proudly carries the “Vision.T” lettering on the horn pad. A unique detail is the starter button placed right on the steering wheel — something usually reserved for high-end sports cars. The SUV has been designed as a 5-seater, balancing practicality with its bold design.
Powertrain Possibilities
Mahindra hasn’t confirmed the powertrain options yet, but given the flexibility of the Nu IQ platform, the Vision.T could be offered in both ICE (internal combustion engine) and all-electric versions. This makes it a versatile option for the future, appealing to both traditional SUV buyers and those looking at EVs.
Expected Rivals
When it eventually heads to production, the Mahindra Vision.T will take on some serious competition. It’s expected to be positioned as an all-electric alternative to the Mahindra Thar, the Mahindra Thar Roxx, and even the Force Gurkha — all of which are popular choices in the lifestyle SUV space.
