Lenovo has begun cancelling some pre-orders of its latest gaming handheld, the Lenovo Legion Go 2, owing to intense demand. What was meant to be an exciting launch has turned into a frustrating wait for many fans, especially those who placed their orders directly on Lenovo.com.
Why Pre-Orders Are Being Cancelled
When the device first went live, demand was far higher than Lenovo expected. Many buyers noticed delivery delays last week, and while the company initially tried to push shipments out “as quickly as possible,” it has now admitted that it won’t be able to honor all of those orders. Instead, some pre-orders have been officially cancelled.
The announcement came during a Reddit AMA on the Legion Go subreddit, where Lenovo addressed the situation directly with fans.
Stock Coming to Retailers
There is some good news though. Lenovo confirmed that fresh batches of the Legion Go 2 are already being sent to major retailers worldwide. That means customers should start seeing the handheld available in stores and on third-party retail websites soon.
At the same time, the company stressed that it doesn’t want to take payments for products it cannot deliver in a reasonable time. “We will need to cancel some pre-orders placed directly on Lenovo.com. As soon as our online inventory is replenished, the site will show updated availability and ordering will reopen,” the company explained.
Fans Left Disappointed
Naturally, the move has upset early buyers who wanted to be among the first to try the second-generation handheld. Lenovo acknowledged this frustration and apologized, saying, “We know this is frustrating, and we’re truly sorry for the inconvenience it caused, especially for our most passionate fans. The Legion Go Gen 2 was built with you in mind, and this experience has been an important lesson for us.”
Demand Was Higher Than Expected
The cancellations follow an earlier update where Lenovo admitted that Legion Go 2 pre-orders ‘substantially exceeded’ projections, creating “unforeseen” delays in shipments. Despite working with its global teams, the company simply couldn’t keep up with the surge in demand.
What the Device Offers
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 was first introduced earlier this month at the IFA Berlin tech trade show. It packs some serious hardware upgrades compared to the first-gen model. Powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip and featuring a large 8.8-inch OLED display, the handheld is designed for serious portable gaming.
Adding to the excitement, Lenovo Legion Go 2 will get Xbox full-screen experience next year, giving fans another reason to look forward to the device once they can finally get their hands on it.
Bigger Launch, Bigger Challenges
The company had pitched the device under the banner Lenovo Unveils Second-Gen Legion Go Handheld With Big Upgrades, Bigger Price, and while the product itself looks promising, supply hiccups have overshadowed the launch. Still, with retail shipments ramping up, more gamers should be able to purchase the handheld in the coming weeks.
