Instagram is rolling out a big update that makes editing Stories easier and more creative than ever. Meta’s powerful AI editing tools are now built right into the Stories editor, so users can instantly tweak their photos and videos without leaving the app.
AI Editing Made Simple
Until now, Meta’s AI features were available through a separate chatbot, which made the process a bit clunky. With this new update, AI editing lives directly inside Stories, streamlining the whole experience.
All you need to do is tap the paintbrush icon in the Stories editor and open the new “Restyle” menu. From there, you can type a simple text prompt to add, remove, or completely change elements in your photo or video. Want to change the color of your shirt, add a hat, or swap the background with the Eiffel Tower? Just type it out, and the AI does the work.
Presets and Special Effects
For quick edits, Instagram is also adding ready-made presets. These let you transform your content with just one tap—whether it’s turning your photo into a watercolor painting, making your jacket look leather, or adding dramatic effects like falling snow or flames in your videos. The idea is to make advanced edits feel effortless, even for people who don’t have design skills or third-party apps.
The Catch: Data and Terms
Of course, using these AI tools comes with some conditions. To access them, users need to accept Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which allow the company to analyse your uploaded content and generate new visuals based on it.
This move is part of Meta’s larger push to weave AI into all its platforms. Recently, the c₹ompany tested “Write with Meta AI” to help users draft comments, and even introduced “Vibes,” an AI-generated video feed. The strategy seems to be working—according to Similarweb data shared with TechCrunch, Meta AI’s daily active users on iOS and Android jumped from 775,000 to 2.7 million in just four weeks this October.
Safety and Parental Controls
With more AI features comes more responsibility. To address concerns around safety, especially for younger audiences, Meta has also rolled out parental controls. These allow parents to monitor how teens are interacting with AI characters and even disable chats altogether if needed.
