The Permanent Account Number (PAN) is one of the most essential tools for financial identification in India. Think of it as your digital financial fingerprint — every major transaction, investment, bank account, or tax filing is linked to your unique 10-digit PAN. That’s why the government treats it with such importance, and so should you.

But what if you’ve recently applied for a new PAN or requested a reprint? The good news is — you don’t have to wait in the dark. You can easily check your PAN card status online in less than a minute.

Why It’s Important to Check PAN Status Online

Sometimes, PAN applications take longer than expected due to issues like courier delays, KYC mismatches, or pending document verification. By checking your status online, you can instantly find out whether your application is under process, approved, printed, dispatched, or if it needs any additional action from your end.

Most people don’t realize that the government offers two official websites where you can track your PAN application status:

  • NSDL (now Protean eGov Technologies)

  • UTITSL (UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited)

Let’s go through both methods.

Check PAN Status Through the NSDL Portal

If you applied for your PAN through NSDL, here’s how to check your status:

  1. Go to the NSDL PAN Status page.

  2. From the Application Type dropdown, select PAN – New / Change Request.

  3. Enter your 15-digit Acknowledgement Number (you’ll find it in the email you received after submitting your application).

  4. Fill in the captcha code shown on the screen.

  5. Click Submit.

Your live PAN application status will appear instantly. If your card has already been processed, you’ll also see dispatch details or the expected delivery date.

Check PAN Status Through the UTITSL Portal

If you applied through UTITSL, follow these simple steps:

  1. Visit the UTITSL PAN Card Status page.

  2. Enter your Application Coupon Number (shared via email when you applied).

    • Alternatively, you can enter your PAN number if you’re checking the status of a reprint.

  3. Fill in the captcha code.

  4. Click Submit.

You’ll immediately see whether your PAN application is still being processed, approved for printing, or already dispatched.

Pro Tip: Don’t Wait for the Physical Card

Once your status shows as “Issued” or “Processed”, your PAN card will soon arrive at your registered address. However, you don’t need to wait for the physical copy.

You can download your ePAN, which holds the same legal value for most KYC, banking, and verification processes. In fact, many people now use their ePAN for all digital and financial tasks without ever needing the plastic version.

Your PAN is much more than a tax ID — it’s your gateway to financial identity in India. Whether you’re an Indian citizen, an NRI, or a foreign national with investments in India, keeping track of your PAN status ensures you’re always in control of your financial documentation.

And now that you know how to check it online, you’ll never have to wonder where your PAN application stands again.
