Human Mobile Devices (HMD) is getting ready to broaden its lineup with a device built specifically for younger users. The Finland-based company has teamed up with Norwegian wearable brand Xplora to introduce the HMD XploraOne — a simple, kid-friendly smartphone designed for communication and safety rather than entertainment. The idea is to give children a controlled first phone experience without the usual distractions of social media or unrestricted internet access.

Simple Design With Strong Parental Controls

Although the company hasn’t shared pricing or an exact launch date yet, the phone has already appeared on Xplora’s official website, where interested buyers can sign up for early pre-sale offers. The HMD XploraOne is positioned as a child’s “first device,” focusing on basic calling and texting features. It includes a physical button on the top and a navigation button on the front, making it easy to use even for very young kids.

The software is intentionally minimal. It comes with basics like a calculator, calendar, and gallery, but leaves out third-party app stores to ensure a safer digital environment. Parents will also get extensive control tools, including the ability to manage contact lists by adding, blocking, or removing numbers. Real-time location tracking adds another layer of safety for guardians.

Leaked Specifications

HMD has yet to publish the full spec sheet, but trusted tipster @smashx_60 has shared what to expect. According to the leak, the XploraOne will feature a compact 3.2-inch QVGA IPS display with a 2.5D protective coating. It may run on a Unisoc T127 processor paired with 64MB RAM and 128MB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD.

The phone is also said to include a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera — basic but adequate for its target audience. Connectivity options will reportedly include GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and FM Radio. Interestingly, the leak suggests that the device might include Gemini AI for simple smart features.

Keeping things powered is a 2,000mAh battery with USB Type-C charging, and the phone may come with an IP52 rating for dust and splash protection. Color options are expected to include Charcoal and Cyan Blue.
