HMD Global, the brand we’ve known for years as the home of Nokia phones, is officially branching out. In a move to build its own “tech family” of products, the company just launched its first-ever smartwatches: the HMD Watch X1 and the Watch P1.

This isn’t just about another gadget; it’s a clear signal that HMD wants to be on your wrist, not just in your pocket.

A Style for Every Wrist

HMD is giving shoppers two very different looks right out of the gate. The Watch X1 is the fancy one of the pair, sporting a classic round 1.43-inch AMOLED screen that’s easy to read even when you’re standing in bright sunlight.

If you’re someone who likes a more modern “tech” look, the Watch P1 might be for you. It features a larger, rectangular 1.83-inch screen, giving you more room to read your texts and check your morning workout stats without squinting.

Battery Life and Toughness

Nobody likes charging their watch every single night. HMD has kept that in mind with some decent battery numbers:

  • The X1: This one is the marathon runner, lasting up to five days on a charge. It also has a better water-resistance rating (IP68), so it can handle a bit more than just a splash.

  • The P1: You’ll get about four days of power here. It’s built with an IP67 rating, making it perfectly fine for a sweaty gym session or a sudden rain shower.

Calls and Safety on the Go

The best part about these watches is that you can leave your phone in your bag more often. Both models allow for Bluetooth calling, so you can pick up a call directly from your wrist.

They also keep a close eye on your health. Whether it’s your heart rate, sleep patterns, or stress levels, these watches track it all. Plus, HMD included an “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) button, which is a great safety feature that lets you call for help instantly if you’re ever in trouble.

Taking on the Big Names

HMD is entering a crowded market where brands like Noise and Boat are already huge. To compete, they’ve packed in over 700 different activity modes, covering everything from basic walking to more niche hobbies.

While you’ll still need your phone to map your run (since there’s no built-in GPS), HMD is betting that their clean design and reliable name will win people over. With options like a sleek silver leather strap for the X1, they are clearly aiming for a mix of style and function.
