Google Photos has steadily been adding AI-powered tools, like its “Photo to video” feature that uses the Veo 3 model. Now, a new discovery suggests the app could be gearing up for another big update: the ability to use a text prompt box to control how videos are created from still photos.

Clues Found in the App’s Code

According to Android Authority, traces of the new feature were spotted in the code of Google Photos version 6.48. Hidden visuals show a text input box within the “Photo to video” interface, though the feature itself isn’t active yet. This indicates that Google is still in the early testing phase.

More Creative Freedom for Users

Currently, users have limited options when generating animations from photos — either “Subtle movements” or the random “I’m feeling lucky” mode. A text prompt system would change that completely. By simply typing in what they want — whether it’s a cinematic zoom, a dramatic pan, or playful effects — users could gain much more control over how their videos look. This could also make the tool far more popular among creators.

Possible Restrictions and Rollout

Like other AI features in Google Photos, it’s likely that free users would face daily limits on how many videos they can generate. Premium subscribers, such as those on Google One AI Pro, would probably get a bigger allowance.

For now, though, it’s all based on leaks — Google hasn’t confirmed if or when the feature will roll out. Another important note: most of Google Photos’ generative AI tools are currently only available in the US, so global availability could take time.
