Google is giving its Home app a major refresh, complete with a redesigned interface and built-in Gemini AI. While the official announcement is expected on October 1, some users are already spotting the changes—especially on iOS. Android users, however, may have to wait a little longer.
A Cleaner, Simpler Layout
The update brings a tidier look and reorganized navigation. The familiar “Favorites” tab is now called “Home,” and Google has removed the separate “Devices” and “Settings” tabs from the main navigation bar. Early screenshots from users show a more streamlined layout that makes it easier to find key controls.
Meet Gemini in Google Home
The biggest new addition is Gemini integration, arriving through a feature called “Ask Home.” This AI-powered search box lets you type natural language commands to:
-
Automate smart home tasks
-
Search through home and video history
-
Get AI-generated summaries of events and notifications
To enable it, users will first need to accept updated terms of service.
Staggered Rollout Across Platforms
The redesign isn’t rolling out to everyone at once. Some iOS users are already seeing it, but even Android users on the latest app version aren’t guaranteed to get the new look yet. That’s because Google appears to be flipping a server-side switch and may hold back a broader release until after its October event.
