Google has introduced a new Gmail feature that finally lets users change their existing email addresses without creating a new account. As reported by Google, this feature is currently available to select users and is expected to expand more widely in the coming weeks.

The change aims to make it easier for people who want a more professional email address/ have changed their name or simply want a new username without the hassle of moving data manually.

All About the New Gmail Feature

According to the updated support documentation, Gmail users can now replace their existing @gmail.com address with a new one. This change would not affect access to existing data.

In this, people can still receive messages and sign in using their old address. It is a direct change to the main address, not a separate account or a transfer of data.

Early reports suggested that the feature may first appear in certain languages or regions before becoming widely available. However, Google has not yet issued an official global statement or press release confirming full rollout.

How It Works?

As per the support documentation, an individual can change their Gmail address directly from their Google Account settings. The new address must end with “@gmail.com.” Once updated, the old one remains linked as a secondary sign-in option. Reports suggest that Google may limit how often users can make this change.

What’s Next for Gmail Users?

The gradual rollout approach suggests that feedback and testing are ongoing. Users can check their account settings periodically to see if the option has been added. For now, this remains one of the most significant changes to Gmail in recent years, which is giving millions of users more flexibility without losing their data or contacts.
