Garmin has just released a new smartwatch designed specifically for boaters and sailors. Called the Quatix 8 Pro, this new watch stands out because it doesn’t need a phone to work. It uses satellite technology to let users send messages and make calls even when they are miles away from the nearest cell tower.
Safety Without a Signal
The biggest feature of the Quatix 8 Pro is its built-in inReach technology. This allows the watch to switch between standard LTE networks (when you are near the shore) and satellite signals (when you are deep at sea).
This means sailors can send text messages, share their location, or make voice calls from their wrist without needing a smartphone nearby. Most importantly, it has an SOS button. If something goes wrong up to 50 miles offshore, users can trigger an emergency alert to a 24/7 rescue center directly from the watch.
Total Control of Your Boat
Garmin has also added a new “Boat Mode” to the interface. When this is turned on, the watch hides normal notifications and focuses entirely on the vessel.
Users can connect the watch to their boat’s systems to check water depth, control the autopilot, or even adjust the lighting and music. The watch itself is built to survive harsh marine environments, featuring a scratch-resistant sapphire screen and a tough titanium bezel. It is rated to withstand water pressure up to 100 meters deep.
Battery Life and Price
Despite all these high-tech features, the battery is impressive. Garmin says the watch can last up to 15 days on a single charge in standard mode.
The Quatix 8 Pro is a premium tool, and it comes with a premium price tag. It will be available for purchase starting January 16 for $1,299.99 (approx. Rs. 1,17,200). It comes in two sizes (47mm and 51mm) to fit different wrists.
