Flipkart Black has officially arrived in India, and the e-commerce giant is clearly aiming to take on Amazon Prime with this premium subscription programme. The new service promises more value for frequent shoppers, with benefits like early access to sales, priority customer support, cashback, and even a bundled YouTube Premium subscription.
Price and How It Stacks Up Against Flipkart VIP and Plus
The annual cost of a Flipkart Black membership is Rs. 1,499, but for now, it’s available at a launch price of Rs. 990. By comparison, a Flipkart VIP membership costs Rs. 799 per year, while the company’s free loyalty tier, Flipkart Plus, unlocks Silver status after 10 orders and Gold after 20 orders in a year. Clearly, Flipkart is positioning Black as a step above these existing programmes.
Shopping Rewards With SuperCoins
Members of Flipkart Black will get 5 percent SuperCoins cashback (up to Rs. 100) on every order placed on Flipkart or Flipkart Minutes, the company’s quick-commerce service. Users can also earn as many as 800 SuperCoins each month and get an extra 5 percent discount on orders (capped at Rs. 1,000) when paying with SuperCoins.
For those unfamiliar, SuperCoins are Flipkart’s in-house rewards currency, where one coin equals one rupee. So, 50 SuperCoins can directly translate to Rs. 50 worth of savings.
YouTube Premium Subscription Bundled In
The biggest highlight of this plan is the inclusion of a YouTube Premium subscription, valid for one year. Since YouTube Premium itself costs Rs. 1,490 annually, this alone nearly justifies the price of Flipkart Black. Subscribers will enjoy ad-free video streaming, background play, and downloads, though the subscription can only be linked to one YouTube account and is non-transferable.
Exclusive Perks for Black Members
Alongside the shopping benefits, Flipkart Black deals will include:
-
Special discounts on premium gadgets
-
Early access to Flipkart’s major sale events
-
24×7 priority customer support
-
Cashback offers across categories
-
Flight cancellations and rescheduling on Cleartrip for just Re. 1
However, users should note that once purchased, the Flipkart Black subscription is non-refundable and non-cancellable.
Going Head-to-Head With Amazon Prime
It’s no secret that Flipkart Black is designed as a direct rival to Amazon Prime, which also costs Rs. 1,499 per year. Amazon offers similar perks like early sale access and Prime Video streaming, but with ads now running on Prime Video, Flipkart’s bundled YouTube Premium could be a strong draw for those who prefer ad-free entertainment.
Meanwhile, the Flipkart VIP plan seems positioned more against Amazon Prime Lite, which offers fewer benefits at a lower price point.
