Citroen India has officially opened pre-bookings for its upcoming Basalt X range. Customers can now reserve their car either at any authorised dealership or directly through the brand’s India website by paying a booking amount of Rs. 11,000. Along with this announcement, teaser images were released, giving us a first look at what to expect from the new model.

Part of Citroen’s New Strategy

The launch of the Basalt X is aligned with Citroen’s ‘Shift into the New’ 2.0 strategy. It follows the recent debut of the C3 X range, which was priced from Rs. 7.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and introduced with added features.

From the teasers, we can already see some upgrades — the cabin will feature a black and brown dual-tone cabin theme, while the dashboard gets a more premium look with copper accents on the air vents and trim. A central armrest with twin cup holders and extra storage space have also been highlighted.

Features and Expected Pricing

Being positioned as a Basalt midsize SUV coupe, the new variant will bring more premium equipment. Expected features include push-button engine start, keyless entry and stop, and even an optional 360-degree camera system.

Prices are likely to be about Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 higher than the existing trims.

Engine and Performance

The Basalt X range is not expected to get mechanical changes. It will continue with two 1.2-litre petrol engine options:

  • A turbocharged engine producing 108.6 bhp and 190 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual, or 205 Nm with a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

  • An NA engine delivering 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual.

Technology and Safety

In terms of features, the Citroen Basalt X is expected to include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, and advanced safety equipment such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

It will continue to offer a 470-litre boot space and 180 mm ground clearance, making it practical for Indian road conditions.

Position in Citroen’s Lineup

The Basalt range currently sits between Rs. 8.32 lakh and Rs. 14.10 lakh (ex-showroom). In Citroen’s domestic portfolio, it is positioned above the Aircross but below the C5 Aircross, strengthening the brand’s SUV lineup in India.
