BMW has officially introduced the F 450 GS, a compact adventure motorcycle that carries forward the brand’s legendary GS DNA — built for confidence, balance, and long-distance comfort.

While its India launch timeline is yet to be announced, the bike’s success here will likely depend on how well BMW localizes production and prices it. If the company manages to keep costs competitive and backs it with strong dealer support, the F 450 GS could become a smart, low-stress entry point into the GS family for Indian riders.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the new F 450 GS sits a 420cc parallel-twin engine, tuned for smooth and manageable power delivery. It produces 47.5 bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm.

The engine uses a 135-degree crank offset with a balance shaft, which helps reduce vibrations and provide a refined, calm riding experience. It’s paired with a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive.

BMW claims a kerb weight of 178 kg and a 14-litre fuel tank, which should deliver a practical range of over 350 km between refills — making it well-suited for touring and light adventure trips.

Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes

True to the GS heritage, the bike features a steel tubular frame that uses the engine as a stressed member for added rigidity.

Suspension comes from KYB, featuring a 43mm upside-down front fork and a linked rear monoshock, both offering 180mm of travel.

Higher variants like the Sport and GS Trophy add rebound and compression adjustability on the front fork, along with a sport-tuned setup for more aggressive riding.

The bike rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels, wrapped in tubeless tyres sized 100/90-19 and 130/80-17, respectively.

Braking is handled by a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston caliper, and a 240mm rear disc with a ByBre caliper — both supported by dual-channel ABS.

Electronics and Rider Aids

BMW hasn’t held back on electronics. The F 450 GS comes standard with Rain, Road, and Enduro riding modes. The Enduro Pro mode, available on higher trims, offers reduced traction and ABS intervention for better control on loose terrain.

Other standard features include ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Engine Drag Torque Control, and Dynamic Brake Control, providing a comprehensive safety net for riders.

A 6.5-inch TFT display handles phone connectivity, music, and turn-by-turn navigation. There’s also full-LED lighting, heated grips, and on most variants, Shift Assistant Pro (quickshifter) for clutchless gear changes.

The GS Trophy variant introduces BMW’s new Easy Ride Clutch — an innovative centrifugal clutch system that lets riders start or shift without pulling the lever, though a manual clutch remains available for those who prefer it.

Variants and Customization

BMW is offering the F 450 GS in four trims, catering to different riding needs and budgets:

  • Basic – Finished in Cosmic Black, this version includes all the essential GS features.

  • Exclusive – Adds Riding Modes Pro, hand guards, engine guard, off-road foot pegs, and the quickshifter.

  • Sport – Offered in Racing Red, builds on the Exclusive with the sport suspension setup.

  • GS Trophy – The top-spec model in Racing Blue Metallic, featuring the sport suspension, aluminum engine guard, tinted rally screen, Shift Assistant Pro, and the Easy Ride Clutch.

The standard seat height is 845mm, with optional seats available in 830mm (low) and 865mm (Rallye) versions. BMW will also offer Cross-spoke wheels and an Akrapovic exhaust as accessories for those seeking more customization and character.

A Compact GS for the Next Generation

The BMW F 450 GS marks a new chapter for the GS family — a bike designed to make adventure riding more approachable without compromising on the iconic GS essence.

With its balance of modern tech, manageable power, and classic BMW build quality, it could prove to be a perfect companion for new adventure riders and experienced tourers alike — especially if BMW gets the India pricing right.
