State-owned oil companies made this change today. They raised the price of petrol and diesel by 90 paise for every litre. In Delhi people now have to pay Rs 98.64 for one litre of petrol. This is more than what they were paying which was Rs 97.77. The price of diesel in Delhi also went up to Rs 91.58 per litre from Rs 90.67. This information is from the Indian Oil Corporation. This is the time the price of petrol and diesel has gone up in just five days. Before this the price had gone up by than Rs. 3, per litre on May 15.

Prices are going up. Oil marketing companies are raising the retail prices because global crude oil rates are climbing due to the US-Iran war. You’ll pay more cash at the fuel pump today. Ultimately, these changes keep on affecting all the people who drive a car or scooter in India.

Fuel Prices Vary Across Different Indian Cities

Kolkata recorded the highest petrol rate among the four major cities at Rs 109.70 per litre.

Mumbai petrol now costs Rs 107.59 per litre after a 91 paise increase.

Buyers in Chennai saw the price rise by 82 paise to Rs 104.49 a litre.

Diesel prices in Mumbai and Kolkata jumped by 94 paise per litre.

Chennai remains the most expensive major city for diesel at Rs 96.11 per litre.

See, your city decides how much more money you lose. The local state governments charge these petroleum products at different value added tax rates, so the final bills are not the same. Delhi keeps the lowest rates among the big four cities because its local tax structure is lower. I usually fill my tank in Delhi to save some money. On the other side, Kolkata transport groups are very angry about the high rates. Diesel changes hit transport groups hard because higher freight charges quickly increase the cost of daily items in local markets.

Global Wars Force Companies to Change Retail Rates

Oil companies continue to lose around Rs 750 crore every day.

The recent price increases covered only a quarter of total financial losses.

Before this hike, companies lost Rs 10 on petrol and Rs 13 on diesel per litre.

India now buys crude oil from 41 countries to secure local supplies.

Actually, global tensions are hurting the budgets of our local oil refiners. The ongoing US-Iran war keeps international crude oil prices high. Wait, before we get into the specs, you should know that the government is trying hard to keep the fuel flowing. Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma said that the price jump on May 15 did not clear the entire loss. Research agency Crisil confirmed that companies were absorbing losses before these two quick hikes. To protect our market from shipping route dangers, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri expanded our buying pool to 41 countries instead of just 27 countries.

Compressed natural gas rates stay completely stable

Indraprastha Gas Limited kept CNG prices unchanged across major NCR areas.

Delhi users will continue to pay Rs 80.09 per kg for CNG.

Noida and Ghaziabad stations sell the gas at Rs 88.70 per kg.

Gurugram consumers pay Rs 85.12 per kg while Kanpur charges Rs 91.42 per kg.

Honestly, auto drivers and public transport owners got some relief today. Indraprastha Gas Limited did not touch the gas rates after their previous change on May 17. If you use a CNG car, your daily running cost will stay the same for now. This stability helps local auto drivers manage their daily earnings better without increasing their fares.

My Verdict

I feel that these price hikes will hurt the pockets of regular middle-class Indians. The global war situation means that oil companies cannot absorb losses forever, so they are passing the burden down to you and me. If you want to save money on your daily commute, switching to a CNG vehicle or using public transport seems like the smartest move right now. Expect a few more minor price revisions if global oil markets do not cool down soon.

The price of petrol and diesel has gone up again in cities in India.
