I’ve been watching the Indian EV market heat up lately, but most of the noise has been about SUVs. That’s why I was so interested to see VinFast gearing up to drop its first electric MPV here as early as next month.
If you’ve been looking for a way to carry the whole family (or a mountain of luggage) without burning a drop of fuel, this is one you’ll want to keep on your radar.
Two Flavors: Personal vs. Professional
VinFast is making a smart play here by splitting the launch into two distinct versions. Whether you’re a business owner or a family person, they’ve got a specific setup for you.
-
MPV 7: This is the one for you and your family. It’s designed for private buyers who want a modern, tech-forward daily driver.
-
Limo Green: Targeted specifically at fleet and commercial buyers. If you start seeing these as premium airport taxis soon, don’t be surprised!
Design & Presence
Don’t let the “MPV” tag fool you; this isn’t a boring box. It’s got a solid, SUV-esque stance that measures 4.7 meters in length—roughly the size of a Toyota Innova Hycross.
-
The Signature Look: You get those unmistakable V-shaped LED light bars at the front and rear.
-
Stance: It sits on 18-inch aero-optimized alloy wheels with a healthy 170 mm ground clearance, which is perfect for navigating our unpredictable Indian roads.
-
Space: Both versions are true 7-seaters, making it a legitimate alternative to the ICE-powered favorites we’re used to.
Why it matters: Most electric cars in this price bracket are cramped. A 2.8-meter wheelbase means you actually get usable legroom in the back rows, which is a rare find in the current EV landscape.
Power, Range, and Charging
Performance-wise, it’s packing enough punch to handle a full load of passengers without breaking a sweat.
-
Output: 201 BHP and 280 Nm of torque.
-
Battery & Range: A 60.13 kWh battery delivering a claimed 450 km range (NEDC).
-
Charging: Using an 80 kW DC fast charger, you can juice up from 10% to 70% in just 30 minutes.
Why it matters: A 30-minute charge break on a road trip is just enough time for a quick coffee and a stretch. With a practical real-world range likely around 350-380 km, inter-city travel becomes a lot more realistic.
Minimalist Interior
Inside, VinFast has gone for a “less is more” approach. The dashboard is clean, dominated by a large central touchscreen that handles almost everything. Interestingly, there’s no traditional gauge cluster; instead, expect a Head-Up Display (HUD) to keep your eyes on the road.
The Competition
When it lands, the MPV 7 will be going head-to-head with the Kia Carens EV and the Mahindra XEV 9e. It’s a tough crowd, but VinFast’s aggressive 10-year warranty and free charging incentives (if they stick to their global promises) could be the “X-factor” that wins people over.
