Sony India has launched a new professional camera tracking tool called Ocellus (ASR-CT1) in New Delhi on May 5, 2026. This system helps creators build augmented reality and virtual production sets much faster by tracking camera moves in real time. It costs ₹32,37,990 and is now hitting shelves at major retail stores across the country.

Honestly, I think it will change how our local news and sports channels look on TV. You might be wondering why anyone would pay over 32 lakh rupees for a tracking box. Basically, old systems needed hundreds of stickers on the ceiling to know where the camera was moving.

This new Ocellus system uses “Visual SLAM” technology to see the room just like a human eye does. Look, the sensor unit is very light and weighs only 250 grams. It has four sensors working at once so that the tracking stays stable even if someone walks in front of the lens. Wait, before we talk about the ports, you should know it even works in dark studios because it has built-in IR lights.

I checked the hardware specs and the processing box is the real brain here. It takes all the data about your focus, iris, and zoom and sends it straight to the computer. For lenses that are not digital, Sony gives you three physical encoders to measure every tiny turn of the lens ring. This means when you zoom in on a physical actor, the digital background zooms perfectly with them.

The system is also a friend to the post-production team. It records all the tracking moves onto an SDXC card as FBX files. Visual effects artists can later match the digital world to the real footage using the timecode. Mukesh Srivastava from Sony India says this will help Indian filmmakers tell much better stories without needing a massive studio. (I personally feel this is great for smaller production houses in Mumbai).

You can use it for live cricket broadcasts or even for big-budget movies that use virtual walls. It connects with a single locking USB Type-C cable, so you do not have to worry about wires falling out during a shoot.
